Blessed with pine-covered mountains, a cool climate that averages a 19 degrees Celsius all year round and some of the most superb dining destinations north of Manila, Baguio City remains the country's undisputed summer capital. With its dynamic art scene being led by some of the country’s most prolific visual artists and the annual colorful celebration of flowers, the Panagbenga Festival, Baguio has become an even more exciting destination.
A visit to the city, however, wouldn’t be quite complete without heading to the well-loved Camp John Hay. The former American military reservation camp is still a favorite sanctuary of city-based vacationers who long for the scent of pine amid the cool mountain breeze. All the developments within Camp John Hay – complete or still undergoing – are in fact geared towards retaining the lushness of the surrounding pine groves. Service in all the facilities within, on the other hand, aims to carry on the warm and friendly hospitality that Camp John Hay has become famous for. The MANOR at Camp John Hay perfectly epitomizes Camp John Hay’s blend of tradition and progress.
At 5,000 feet above sea level, The MANOR at Camp John Hay is a splendid presentation Baguio’s natural beauty and bounty. Nestled within 246 hectares of Baguio’s most beautiful tract of prime land, the four-story structure was designed to blend seamlessly with towering pine trees while the majestic Cordillera mountain range provides a magnificent view. The Baguio stone exterior finish, shingle roofing and tinted glass windows lend the building a warm and friendly look.
The MANOR at Camp John Hay is distinguished not just by its impressive architecture but by its cozy interior as well. Paneled walls and wooden furniture evoke a Filipino-colonial feel and emulate the atmosphere, the history and the fond memories of the real Baguio. Wooden shuttered doors open to outdoor patios with breathtaking view.
The MANOR at Camp John Hay 180-room is a veritable home-away-from-home that offers 180 rooms including 54 well-appointed suites. All the rooms are equipped with modern amenities such as cable TV, IDD/NDD phone system with Internet access, fully stocked refrigerator, hot/cold shower, electronic in-room safe, coffee and tea making machine and electrical outlet: 220V. The main lobby area features a café/restaurant and a lounge adorned by a large fireplace.
Already, The MANOR at Camp John Hay has gained reputation as one of the city’s prime food, leisure and pleasure destinations. Its dining outlets offer the best in haute cuisine, fine wines and topnotch entertainment with its dining facilities – thanks in no small measure to imaginative chef patron Billy King who manages The MANOR’S food and beverage facilities.
Le Chef at The Manor Restaurant offers a wide range of local and international dishes that showcases the freshness of Baguio's produce – the crispy greens and freshly picked fruits and herbs. Newly caught marine delicacies from nearby Dagupan make it to the restaurant still alive to be transformed into succulent entrees.
At Le Chef Delicatessen, the comforting aroma of freshly baked breads and pastries lace the air. The last – tasty, delicate morsels – have become much sought-after delicacies that guests from Manila bring with them as gifts for family and friends. Open daily, it also offers light snacks and a variety of cheeses and sausages.
The nippy Baguio evening is the perfect excuse to unwind in the comfort of The Piano Bar, a cozy sitting lounge beside a fireplace where one can enjoy fine piano music while sipping their favorite cocktail to accompany light, savory hors d’ oeuvres.
To provide guests and local executives a place to combine business with pleasure, the Business Center is equipped with modern facilities such as Internet, personal computer, photocopying and fax machine and provides secretarial services. After an exhausting day at work or from playing a round of golf, refresh your senses and pamper yourself with a massage, Jacuzzi or Sauna at the Palm Garden Health Spa.
Guests at Camp John Hay can go hiking in the eco-trail, while the more adventurous can pitch a tent in the campsite. It also has a butterfly sanctuary for those wish to hold colorful butterflies with their bare hands. And since Baguio is horseback riding country, Camp John Hay has created Shulan Ti Kabadjo where one can experience a pony ride along a bridle path and riding circle.
Other facilities at Camp John Hay include an 18-hole, par 69 golf course designed by the Golden Bear International of Jack Nicklaus; an 18-hole mini golf for children; an outdoor skating rink for roller and in-line skating; picnic grounds where picnic tables set under the towering pine trees may be arranged for a perfect gathering with family and friends; an indoor recreation hall where one can enjoy a game of billiards and video games; a two-kilometer eco-trail that leads to scenic picnic areas and a lush botanical preserve.
The MANOR at Camp John Hay also offers other services and facilities such as room service, shuttle service, sightseeing tours (by arrangement), baby sitting services (by arrangement) valet parking, car/van rental and taxi service.
The MANOR at Camp John Hay is managed and operated by Club Leisure Management Corporation.
